Outreach Opportunities

Project BioEYES
Project BioEYES is a K-12 science education program that provides classroom-based learning opportunities through the use of live zebrafish.  The goal of the program is to teach conceptual understanding of life science content while providing children the opportunity to experience the thrill of scientific discovery.

The program – which reached over 18,000 students last year in Philadelphia, South Bend, and Baltimore – also aims to improve science education experiences by providing teachers with training, resources, and support to conduct and develop their own curricula.

How the Delaware Valley Branch Can Help
The BioEYES Program offers a unique opportunity for AALAS members who live or work in the Philadelphia area to encourage today’s students to become tomorrow’s laboratory animal science professionals.  Volunteers are needed to train teachers how to incorporate live science exercises into the classroom, mentor high school students interested in science careers, and work with teachers to design educational outreach programs using live animals.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to educate our future scientists, researchers and health care advocates about the essential role animal research plays in generating medical discoveries. Become a BioEYES volunteer today!  Please view the Project BioEYES flyer and BioEYES website to learn how you can contribute to this worthwhile program, which was highlighted in the New York Times, The Scientist, and the Public Library of Science (PLoS).

More Information
For more information about BioEYES, please contact BioEYES coordinator Dr. Jamie Shuda. Dr. Shuda is willing to participate in your upcoming branch meetings to describe the program and how your branch can get involved.
